MobileMonday Toronto to Feature Anthony Lacavera
Chairman and CEO, Globalive
Join Canada's leading wireless industry networking group for a
Dec. 7 update on the evolution of Canada's wireless industry
with special guest Anthony Lacavera, CEO of Globalive. This
event is held in conjunction with MobileMonday Toronto's
partnership with MaRS.
Last year, Globalive invested $440M in spectrum licenses in
Canada's wireless spectrum auction with a plan to build the
first new, national wireless company in over a decade. Following
approval by Industry Canada, Globalive spent the last year
building their new network under the brand name WIND Mobile.
Recently, the CRTC made a decision to review Globalive's
ownership structure and concluded that it did not meet Canada's
foreign ownership and control rules, which has effectively
delayed their launch.
So what's next for Globalive?
"When Anthony spoke about the launch plans at our December 2008
event, the MobileMonday Toronto community was abuzz with
excitement," said Jim Brown and Alexander Bosika, co-founders of
MobileMonday Toronto. "Over the last month, we've had countless
emails and calls from people asking how they could voice their
opinion on what has transpired at the CRTC. MobileMonday Toronto
members will have an opportunity to hear directly about this
very important issue as it will have a serious impact on how
Canada is perceived from a globally competitive perspective."
The event is taking place during a critical time in the ongoing
evolution of the Canadian wireless industry. With new licensees
poised to launch wireless networks within the next few months,
existing wireless carriers have been active on multiple fronts
preparing to defend their position in market.
This session of MobileMonday at MaRS is generously supported by
The TAL Group, a Toronto-based recruitment specialist company,
as part of its ongoing commitment to connect with professionals
within the technology community.
